Moving forward on its commitment towards a Greener and Cleaner Planet for future generations and to support the Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s call for “Swachhta Hi Sewa” on the occasion of 150th Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, India’s largest Science-based Ayurveda major Dabur India Limited today joined hands with the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA) for a unique ‘Swacchta Hi Sewa Plogging Drive’ in East Delhi.

The event was organized to raise awareness among the people and inculcate a habit of picking up litter from path while walking or jogging. The Plogging Drive, undertaken between Laxmi Nagar Metro Station and Nirman Vihar Metro Station, also sought to sensitize people, mainly kids, about the caring for the environment and urged them to become community advocates by helping segregate waste at source into dry and wet waste. The programme spans the entire value chain, right from awareness, segregation and collection to promotion, reuse and / or recycling of waste.

This was part of the six-week long ‘Swacchta Hi Sewa – Plastic Waste Shramdaan Campaign’ organized by EDMC and Dabur India Ltd from 11th September 2019 to 27th October 2019.

“The Plogging Drive has been planned to sync together the two good habits of walking/jogging and cleaning to make India swachh and swasth. It also aims to educate school children to become environment heroes in their schools and neighbourhood. Plogging for few kilometres while collecting litter in a bag is a great initiative. With this, we will not only be taking care of our health but also that of mother earth,” Dabur India Ltd Head-CSR Mr. A. Sudhakar said.

Dabur, being a responsible Company with a portfolio of products based on Nature and natural ingredients, has always sought to operate its business with a strong regard for environmental sustainability. Through this initiative, Dabur appeals to all citizens to take part in the campaign on a large scale for awareness generation and community mobilization through Shramdaan, Clean and Green Drives, Swacchta Rallies etc for plastic waste collection and safe disposal of plastic waste,” Mr. Sudhakar added.

On the occasion, Dabur India Ltd announced its commitment to becoming a Plastic Waste Neutral company by the end of March 2021 by collecting, processing and recycling 20,000 MT of post-consumer plastic waste from across the country. With this, the company would be collecting back 100% of the plastic waste that it generates through its product packaging, making it amongst the first Indian FMCG companies to achieve this feat. Dabur rolled out this pilot plastic recycling initiative in 2018-19 in six states, collecting, processing and recycling nearly 4,000 MT of post-consumer plastic waste during the year. This covers both recyclables (like PET, HDPE, beverage cartons) and non-recyclables (multi-layered plastic). The company has now extended this Plastic Waste Management initiative to 25 states in the 2019-20 fiscal and will collect 12,400 MT plastic waste and send them for recycling/processing in 2019-20. This would be further hiked to 20,000 MT in 2020-21, making it a Plastic Waste-Neutral company.
